The game

A battle royale you can dig through

Project Bunkie Bye is an online multiplayer battle royale, played in side view on a round, procedurally generated planet. Around a hundred fighters, players and bots, leave the same ship, then fight their way across the surface and down through the rock toward the planet’s centre, until one side is left standing.

A long arc of escape pods falls from space toward the planet, its blue atmosphere glowing against the dark, the sun blazing above.

01

Drop from orbit

Every match begins aboard one ship circling the planet. Pick your moment to jump, steer your escape pod down through the sky and pull the parachute yourself. Leave it too late and the pod hits the ground hard enough to blow apart.

In late-afternoon light, a fighter with a rocket launcher stands on a rocky ridge. The rocket’s blast has torn a fresh crater into the slope beside an escape pod, and below the surface a lamp lights a tunnel. A solar-roofed building with a sun clock stands to the right.

02

Break the ground

The ground is destructible. Shovels dig in any direction, rockets and mines blast out craters, and every cut leaves rough rock and debris behind. The ways down open as holes, hatches, slopes, switchbacks and old mine entrances.

Underground, lanterns light a wide tunnel hall of warm brown rock with pale crystals in its walls. A fighter fires a rocket across the hall toward a fighter in a hard hat, and past the lantern light the rock fades into darkness.

03

A labyrinth below

Under the surface, timbered mine shafts, natural caves and ancient cut stone wind down toward the centre, growing wider the deeper they go. The strongest finds lie deep, and so do the creatures that live there, from six-legged crawlers to a giant beast in its lair.

In a crystal cave, a fighter in a miner’s helmet fires a laser rifle. The beam strikes the head of a giant beast with glowing blue crystal spikes along its back, which flashes red under the hit.

04

Weapons, gear and traps

Pistols, SMGs, shotguns, laser rifles and rocket launchers; knives, laser swords and shovels. A grappling hook, a jetpack and gravity boots get you around, and sticky mines, snares and decoys catch the unwary.

Hits land where you aim: lose an arm and your aim wavers, lose a leg and you crawl.

At dusk, a wall of purple storm crackles with lightning beside a solar-roofed building with a sun clock, as a fighter runs from its edge. A lamp glows in a tunnel below.

05

Close in, team up, level up

A storm closes in along the tunnels in stages, driving everyone toward the chamber at the planet’s centre. Play with friends in a party, carry fallen teammates to a revival station, and level up a talent tree as you fight. Every match starts everyone back at level one.
